Globalize Your Standards
Globalizing your standards seems like it could be an insurmountable feat, but it doesn't have to be! The first step in globalizing standards is to consider the "why" of teaching the content in the first place. How might gaining this knowledge benefit them as future citizens? What is so important about this curriculum? If you start with the "why" of teaching, the global impact of education is just a step away.
As a teacher of sixth and seventh grade science, I have found making global connections to my standards very possible. Below, I am providing a simple thought flow chart demonstrating how I go about globalizing my standards. These ideas are just the beginning of thinking about how we might make global connections, but they model a way to consider your standards. As you move through the content and shift thinking in this way, opportunity and ideas for refinement will become more clear.

After the initial thought phase, consider walking through one standard in this way to make more concrete connections.
