In order to teach students to appreciate a global perspective, it is important that teachers themselves have experience in global perspectives. Below you will find several resources to help you get out of the classroom and into the world. Many of these programs offer completely financed travel experience. There are several different types of grants listed below that reach a range of content areas.
Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program

"The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC) is a year-long professional development opportunity for U.S. elementary, middle, and high school teachers to develop skills for preparing students for a competitive global economy. Fulbright TGC equips teachers to bring an international perspective to their schools through targeted training, experience abroad, and global collaboration.

The NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship

Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship - National Geographic

"The Grosvenor Teacher Fellow (GTF) Program is a professional development opportunity for Pre-K-12 educators made possible by a partnership between Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society. An annual competitive application process is used to select educators and host them aboard Lindblad Expeditions’ voyages for a life-changing, field-based experience.

NOAA Teachers at Sea
"The mission of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Teacher at Sea Program is to provide teachers hands-on, real-world research experience working at sea with world-renowned NOAA scientists, thereby giving them unique insight into oceanic and atmospheric research crucial to the nation. The program provides a unique opportunity for kindergarten through college-level teachers to sail aboard NOAA research ships to work under the tutelage of scientists and crew.

PolarTREC

"PolarTREC (Teachers and Researchers Exploring and Collaborating) is a program in which teachers from the United States (both formal and informal) spend 3-6 weeks participating in hands-on field research experiences in the polar regions. The goal of PolarTREC is to invigorate polar science education and understanding by bringing educators and polar researchers together.
Starting in 2018, the program will accept applications from U.S. teachers teaching middle and high school students only and informal educators who have a primary focus on outreach to middle and high school students and/or professional development for their teachers." PolarTREC Website |

Earthwatch Institute

From the edge of the Arctic to the Wetlands of Mexico City, these teachers collect data on climate change, ecology, wildlife, and more. Teachers have the opportunity to learn the scientific process first hand and help to solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. GOETHE Institute - Transatlantic Outreach Program
"The core focus groups of TOP are social studies and STEM educators in the U.S. and Canada. In addition to implementing TOP curriculum in the classroom, educators are encouraged to apply for one of several custom-designed study tour programs offered by TOP annually. These study tours are designed to address the specific interests of educators, focusing on such topics as the legacy of the Holocaust, contemporary Holocaust education, collective memory, Cold War and post-Cold War history, peaceful protest movements, energy policy, demographic diversity, the Eurozone, migration and integration, national identity, vocational education, education policy, and much more."
